Romano stated that Phillips was “open to the move.” Juventus want a loan deal with an option to buy. City would desire a mandatory buy option for the 2018/19 Championship Team of the Year member. Following promotion with Leeds to the Premier League in 2020, Phillips would stay at Elland Road for two campaigns before joining the Citizens in the summer of 2022. Injuries immediately hampered the midfielder’s time under Guardiola. Eventually, the Englishman would lose his role as a preferred substitute, and be limited to only 12 Premier League appearances.

He has appeared in only four matches in the English top flight, something that would push anyone out of a team.
