A Huge Get For The Wildcats
So far in the transfer portal season Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats have been doing some big things. However, on Wednesday they kicked it up a few notches landing a big-time defender. Let’s introduce you to him as Jamon Duman-Johnson picks Kentucky.
Staying In The SEC
Jamon Dumas-Johnson comes to Kentucky from Georgia. In fact he’s the second former Bulldog heading to Lexington, the first being quarterback Brock Vandagriff. Coming out of high school the Baltimore native was the eighth-best player in Maryland, 22nd-best linebacker, and the 198th-best player in America.
In his first game playing for Kirby Smart he intercepted a pass for a touchdown against UAB. During his freshman campaign, he recorded 21 tackles, 2.5 for a loss, and two sacks. His second season in Athens was even better making 70 tackles, nine for a loss, and four sacks. As a result, he was a finalist for the Dick Butkus Award awarded to the nation’s best linebacker. Ultimately Iowa’s Jack Campbell took home the trophy. In addition, he was named an All-American.
Final Year At Georgia
The 6-1, 245-pound Dumas-Johnson came into 2023 with NFL Draft Hopes. However, an arm injury limited him to nine games. Even so, he still managed 34 tackles, 5.5 for a loss, and 3.5 sacks. He surprised many when he entered the transfer portal last week. He chose Kentucky over Auburn and Florida State.
Now that we’ve given you some history let’s see how he fits in as Jamon Dumas-Johnson picks Kentucky.
Instant Impact Player
Currently, the linebacker position at Kentucky is young and needs depth. The Wildcats’ second-leading tackler, Trevin Wallace, has declared for the NFL. Dumas-Johnson comes in as a day-one starter alongside D’Eryk Jackson, assuming he comes back for another year.
He’s the 13th-best player in the portal and a top-ranked linebacker. Currently, Kentucky’s transfer ranking sits sixth, with players coming in from Ohio State, and Texas A&M to go along with the pair from Georgia. Oh by the way Kentucky and Georgia meet in Lexington on September 14, 2024.
Again the Wildcats land one of the biggest players in the transfer portal as Jamon Dumas-Johnson picks Kentucky. Don’t forget we have several player profiles for incoming freshmen as this is National Signing Day.
