14 Fun Facts of Top14 Round Nine

Larissa Falls continues her series breaking down the names and numbers from Round Nine of the French Top14.

  • The top five teams in the Top14 Standings – Racing, Toulon, Castres, Pau, Stade Francais – have all won six games and are purely separated on the ladder by Bonus Points and Points Difference.
  • Every team that trailed at half time over the weekend, went on to lose their game.
  • 100% of Bordeaux’s points against Oyonnax were scored by French players involved in the 2023 RWC: Maxime Lucu, Matthieu Jalibert, Damian Penaud, Louis Bielle-Biarrey.
  • Stade Francais have now won 10 consecutive games at home when facing the reigning Top14 Champions. It’s a record that spans over 10 years at Stade Jean Bouin.
  • Damian Penaud is the leading Try Scorer in the Top14 with seven tries. Remarkably, he’s scored them in just four matches.
  • Montpellier have been behind on the scoreboard for the last 120 minutes of rugby action.
  • There were three multiple try scorers in Round Nine; Enzo Herve (Toulon, two), Damian Penaud (Bordeaux, two) and Leo Barre (Stade Francais, two).
  • Toulouse failed to score a first half point against Stade Francais, while Perpignan failed to score a second half point against La Rochelle.
  • Montpellier made the most tackles with 194. Lyon missed the most with 30, whilst Racing missed the fewest with just nine. The only side to keep that figure below double digits.
  • No player has kicked more successful penalty goals than Toulon’s Enzo Herve.
  • Despite their loss, Toulouse still managed the best ruck speed, hitting 63% of them within three seconds.
  • With Paddy Jackson’s second drop goal in as many weeks, he now joins Camille Lopez as the only players with multiple drop goals to their name.
  • The La Rochelle v Perpignan match saw the best and worst of attacking success. Perpignan’s 22m conversion rate was just 0.38 points per 22m entry, compared to their opponents, La Rochelle, who hit an average of 3.89 points per 22m entry.
  • Toulouse took 53 minutes to hit the scoreboard at Paris Stade Jean-Bouin, which is the longest period of time a team has remained scoreless so far this season.
